PUPPY AND DOG TRAINING CLASSES

NEXT COURSES START:

SATURDAY, 17 MARCH 2012 AT 9.30AM (7 WEEKS)

AND

SATURDAY, 5 MAY 2012 AT 9.30AM (7 WEEKS)

(FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TRAINED WITH ME PREVIOUSLY, THE

MONTHLY IMPROVER WALKS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR)

You can relax - you are not meant to arrive with a well-behaved dog at the first class ...

Whilst safety and the well-being of dogs and owners is paramount, classes are held in a relaxed, non-competitive environment.  However, a commitment to doing your 'homework' each day between classes will enable you to see the best results.

With both puppies and older dogs the classes are aimed at helping improve your understanding of dogs' learning and communication abilities and also how to use relevant and effective training methods suitable for your particular dog.

Core training to achieve a well mannered pet dog includes:

  • Communication skills and correct use of rewards
  • Appropriate socialisation for your dog
  • How to groom and handle your dog
  • Recall (coming when called)
  • Walking on a loose lead
  • Wait
  • Sit (and remain in position)
  • Down (and remain in position)
  • Leave
  • Retrieve

7 week course fee:  £56.  Each class lasts for one hour.  Classes are limited to a maximum of seven dogs to ensure adequate individual attention can be given and therefore full payment (non-returnable) in advance is required to reserve your place.

Please note that all dogs must have proof of up-to-date vaccination (to be brought along for the first class).

For the welfare of other dogs and owners I regret that I am unable to deal with any aggression issues in class (this means any dog that you know to have bitten or otherwise harmed or seriously threatened another dog or person, or which you believe is likely to do so).  If you are at all unsure whether your dog would be suitable for my classes please call to discuss this.  In the event that your dog is unable to attend classes, you may like to consider one-to-one training to learn how best to manage and improve your dog's aggression issues.

Training takes place in pleasant farm land (close to the well-known Outwood windmill) and will be outdoors so waterproofs will be necessary for both owners and dogs.  The classes take the form of teaching the essential exercises listed  opposite, whilst also including intervals between exercises to demonstrate and encourage further interaction and play with your dog to improve communication and your dog's focus on you so that he sees you as the most interesting thing in the environment - essential if you want a good recall!

Improving the basics ...

Once you have successfully completed the course (or reached a similar level with one-to-one training with me) you may join our monthly dog training walks to further improve your training skills.
