RECOMMENDED READING

John Rogerson: Training Your Best Friend

An excellent, but simple, basic guide to training and behaviour – with entertaining cartoons to help you remember the points made.  Do yourselves and your dog a favour and get a copy of this book.

Gwen Bailey:  The Perfect Puppy

Written for puppy owners but with lots of relevant and useful information for training and behaviour of older dogs.

Carol Price:  Understanding the Rescue Dog

Written for rescue dog owners but a really good book with masses of common-sense and practical information on behaviour, training and common problems that may arise throughout a dog’s lifetime.  If you have a Border Collie then I would also strongly suggest Carol’s ‘Understanding the Border Collie’.

Suzanne Clothier:  Bones Would Rain from the Sky

If a dog's prayers were answered ... this lovely book helps you to gain a deeper understanding of dogs and their behaviour, with some enlightening examples and refreshing new thoughts on a dog's psyche.  Excellent for anyone who would like to delve more deeply into the dog's mind but even more of interest for anyone who has a 'problem' dog.

Games to Play with Your Dog

This is what you should be doing every day!  A good little book full of all sorts of games you and your family can play with your dog.  There is also a section on breed-specific games.  Apart from helping you and your dog spend fun time together it will help you learn new training ideas.  Published by Hamlyn in association with the Dogs Trust.

John Rogerson:  The Dog Vinci Code

Published in 2010, this is a must-read guide for the person who really wants to understand their dog and learn how to achieve the best possible relationship.  It includes training tips, practical examples and a little theory.  It is clearly written in an informative, entertaining and easy-to-read format.

Dogs might sometimes appear human but we
need to understand more about canine ways.

Note:  Jay, the 'model' here, was quite happy to be dressed but please do not allow dogs to be dressed if it in any way upsets them.
